Nikolai Andrianov

Nikolai Efimovich Andrianov (Russian Николай Ефимович Андрианов; born October 14, 1952 in Vladimir, † March 21, 2011 ) was a Soviet artistic gymnast.

Life

Nikolai " Kolya " Andrianov grew up in modest circumstances with four siblings and a single mother in Vladimir. Through a friend the same age he came relatively late, at the age of twelve years, to gymnastics. His coach, Nikolai Tolkatschow, was all his life to his foster father. He took not easy to leading Andrianov in his apartment on, trained him regularly, whereupon improved his school performance. He graduated from the College of Education at Vladimir in the subjects of music and sports.

First success reaped a member of the Sports Association Burewestnik in 1969, when he won the Soviet Schülerspartakiade and was appointed to the Junior National Team. When junior tournament of the socialist countries in Moscow Andrianov won gold with the team and on the pommel horse. 1970 followed at a youth competition in Gottwaldov victory in the all around, with the team, on the rings, parallel bars and high bar. In the Gymnastics World Championships 1970 in Ljubljana, he traveled as a substitute of the Soviet seniors team.

First success at senior level Adrianov brought one of his performances at the European Championships 1971 in Madrid, where he won five medals, including gold on pommel horse and the horse jump and bronze in the freestyle six- fight. As a result, he became the most successful gymnasts in the 1970s and won at major sporting competitions at least one gold medal per year. Until 1980, the creative elements in the repertoire Andrianov won 54 medals in international sports competitions, including seven Olympic medals at the Games of Munich 1972, Montreal 1976 and Moscow in 1980, four of the world and nine European titles. In its home games he was given the honor to speak the Olympic Oath. 1982 ended Andrianov his sports career. Later he worked as a certified trainer and appeared as judge in international competitions in appearance.

In 2000 he was elected together with the Romanian Nadia Comaneci from the World Gymnastics Federation Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique ( FIG) for " Turner of the Century". A year later, he was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Andrianov was married to the Soviet gymnast Lyubov Burda, won the 1968 and 1972 Olympic gold with the Soviet women's team. The marriage produced two sons went joint ( born in 1974 and 1980) produced. Until his death he suffered for many years at multiple system atrophy.

Sporting successes

Overall, Andrianov won seven golds, five silvers and three bronze medals (15 medals) at the Olympics. He is in the all-time best list at number 11 and behind the Japanese Sawao Katō the most successful gymnast at the Olympic Games. (2012 ) In addition to Olympic glory he was four time world champion and nine- time European champions.
