Nikolai Novosjolov

Nikolai Novosjolov ( born June 9, 1980 in Haapsalu ) is an Estonian fencer and world champion.

His biggest success was Novosjolov achieve at the World Fencing Championships 2010 in Paris. There he was surprisingly world champion in épée individual competition. Another medal he could win in 2001 with the Estonian epee team, as this was subject at the World Fencing Championships only in the finale Hungary. In 2012, he won the European Championship in Legnano silver in epee individual, in the final he lost to the Russians Pawel Suchov. In the season 2011/2012 he was world number.

Furthermore Novosjolov took part in the Olympic Summer Games 2000 in Sydney and the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing which, however, where he had to retire early both times. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Novosjolov finished third in epee individual after a defeat against Weston Kelsey ninth place.

In 2010 he was elected to Estonia Sportsman of the Year and in 2011 was awarded the Order of the White Star.
