Nikolai Stepulov

Nikolai Stepulov ( born March 20, 1913 in Narva, † January 2, 1968 Tallinn) was an Estonian Soviet boxer and boxing trainer. He was 1936 Olympic medalist.

Life and athletic performance

Nikolai Stepulov began in 1927 with his boxing career. It was 1933, 1934, 1935 and 1937 Estonian champion at lightweight. In 1936 he was Estonian champion at middleweight. At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, he won at the age of 23 years, the silver medal in the lightweight ( under 61.2 kg ). In the final he lost to the Hungarian Imre Boxer Harangi. The following year, Stepulov finished second in the lightweight at the European championships in boxing in Milan. From 1938 to 1940 Nikolai Stepulov worked as a professional boxer in various European countries.

During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, he supported the new communist rulers. Especially in Kiviõli and Kohtla -Järve he was active as a boxing coach and organizer. Popularly House of Kohtla -Järve he organized mock battles, trained referee and held seminars.
