Nikolaus Friedrich von Thouret

Nikolaus Friedrich von Thouret ( born June 2, 1767 in Ludwigsburg, † January 17, 1845 in Stuttgart ) was a German architect and painter of classicism. He worked mainly in Württemberg.

Life

His father, Charles Louis Thouret ( from Dole in Franche -Comté, 1724-1807 ) was Herzoglich Wurttembergischer valet under Carl Eugen, his mother Eva Christiana ( 1736-1815 ) was born a Groz from Stuttgart- Plieningen. Thouret was formed in 1778 to 1788 at the High School in Stuttgart as court painter to Charles. Subsequently, he attended the Académie 1789-1790 des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In Rome he was inspired by the 1793 age-matched Friedrich Weinbrenner, to study architecture.

In 1800 he became ducal court architect; he worked primarily under Duke Carl Eugen and King Frederick I as an interior designer in numerous buildings and palaces. To Thouret rival more and more land architect Carl Leonard of Uber developed from 1802. The conflict escalated in 1803 with Uber as a Thouret afterwards disapproved resignation to King Frederick I taught.

1808 Thouret was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Civil Order of Merit, which was associated with the elevation to personal nobility. 1816, with the death of King Frederick I, Thouret ended activities as court architect. From 1817 he was professor of architecture at the Royal Art School. In 1845 he was buried in the Fangelsbachfriedhof in Stuttgart -Süd.
