Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut

Nikolaus Meyer -Landrut ( born 1960 ) is a German diplomat. Since February 2011 he has been Head of Division 5 ( European politics ) the Federal Chancellery and thus closest advisor of the Federal Chancellor in European issues.

Life

Nikolaus Meyer -Landrut was born in 1960. He graduated in 1979 at the Ev. State School for the gate in Meinerzhagen in the same class as the actor Markus Hering and the journalist Oliver Tolmein High School. In 1988 he received his doctorate at the University of Cologne in history. His work was entitled France and the German unit. He began in 1987 a career in the Foreign Office.

From 1990 to 1993 he served in Vienna, where he was responsible for the disarmament negotiations between representatives of NATO and the Warsaw Pact (see also Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe = CFE Treaty). From 1993 to 1995 he lived in Brussels, Belgium, where he worked as a policy adviser for external relations. From 1995 to 1999 he was Deputy Head of Unit at the headquarters of the Ministry, then still in Bonn, where he (see also Treaty of Amsterdam in 1997 ) and the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU was responsible for the Amsterdam Intergovernmental Conference. From 1999 on, he was speaker of the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the EU in Brussels. From February 2002 he was speaker of the President of the Constitutional Convent, Valéry Giscard d' Estaing and from September 2003 to April 2006 Head of the EU principle of Unit at the Foreign Office, now in Berlin until the summer of 2003. Since May 2006 he has worked at the Federal Chancellery and was there until February 2011 as a group leader for EU policy issues, European political relations with the EU Member States and EU external relations operate. He followed Uwe Corsepius as the new European head of department.

In Germany, in relation to the policy of the European Union, especially in the EU Council, understood by European coordination, the positioning of the German government and the German states.

Meyer- Landrut is married to a French mother and father of four children. He is the nephew of diplomats Andreas Meyer -Landrut and second-degree uncle of singer Lena Meyer -Landrut.
