Nikolaus von Jeroschin

Nicholas of Jeroschin was a Prussian historian of the Middle Ages.

Nicholas of Jeroschin lived in the 14th century as chaplain of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. He translated the Vita Sancti 1328 adalberti of John Canaparius in German verses, then 1331-35 at the request of the Grand Master Luther of Brunswick the Chronicon terrae Prussiae of Peter of Dusburg in 27.737 verses.

He also devoted himself to the German rhyming chronicle, as in The Kronike of Pruzinlant the patroness of the German Order, the Virgin Mary. He has also added some self additives, but they are not significant. The translation is because of Peter Dusburgs work is preserved, historic little of value although the German Jeroschin was re- translated into Latin in the Middle Ages.

In contrast Jeroschin linguistic relationship (the language is the Middle High German of the 14th century ) is of importance. He was by Ernst Gottfried Wilhelm Strehlke in the Scriptores rerum Prussicarum ( the Chronicle in Vol 1, Leipzig 1861; life St. Adalbert's in Vol. 2, 1863) published.
