Nikolay Latyshev

Nikolai Gawrilowitsch Latyschew (Russian Николай Гаврилович Латышев; born November 21, 1913 in Moscow, † February 18, 1999 ) was a Soviet football referees. In his second participation in a FIFA World Cup 1962, he led the final. In addition, he headed a Soviet Cup final eight times.

Career

Between 1931 and 1939 he played actively in the clubs Elektrozavod Stalinez ( Электрозавод Сталинец ) and power plant Moscow and until 1942 for Dynamo Moscow. In the former Soviet system, he was encouraged to prove the beginning of his playing career also a referee course. Therefore he headed from 1933 also matches the Moscow league. From 1940 he also matches the highest Soviet league.

1947 directed his first Soviet Cup final. Until 1957, he was to lead all other Soviet Cup playoffs except for the years 1949 and 1953. 1956 no cup competition took place in the Soviet Union. He initiated within eleven years, eight Cup final, which is to be regarded as a world record.

Since 1952 he was also reported as the first Soviet referee a FIFA referee. His first major use of it took place at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, where he whistled a game. He directed three more games, including the match for the bronze medal between Bulgaria and India at the Games in Melbourne in 1956. Maybe he could have run the final, but that did not work, since there the crew of the Soviet Union - against Yugoslavia - took.

In 1957, he took in a game of the fledgling European Cup of champions use.

In 1958 he was employed at the soccer World Cup in Sweden twice as arbitrators, including the game in which the of their star John Charles Wales cited the incumbent vice world champion defeated Hungary 2-1 and thus already ausschaltete in the preliminary round. In three other games he acted as linesman.

He particularly distinguished himself at the Football World Cup 1962 in Chile. In the infamous for his refereeing tournament the game against Italy, Switzerland and the considered as a difficult match between England and Argentina, which won the British 3-1, and ran the quarter-final between Czechoslovakia and Hungary. In this game, which ended 1-0 for the Czechoslovaks, remained its non-recognition of a gate of Hungary Lajos Tichy controversial for offside. In another game he was linesman. Due to the quality of its Amtswaltung he was eventually selected for the final between defending champions Brazil and Czechoslovakia, which ruled 3-1 the team from South America for themselves. His performance here was unopposed and he was honored by FIFA after the tournament with a golden whistle.

Up to end of his career in 1963 at the age of 50, he led a total of 30 internationals and 192 first division matches. With interruption he was 1948-1983 and chairman of the Soviet referee. In addition, was 1962-1984 for years a member of the FIFA Schiedsrichterkommittees. In 1987 he was honored again with a special Silver Award for his contribution to refereeing by FIFA.

Full-time taught Latyschew who had the advanced academic degree of candidate of sciences ( located under the doctorate), at the Moscow Institute for Machine Tools and got for his work including the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and the medal of honor of the USSR ( Орден Знак Почёта ).
