Nikolai Mikhailov ( Nikolay Mihaylov also written, Bulgarian Николай Михайлов; born June 28, 1988 in Sofia) is a Bulgarian football player and son of Borislav Mihailov, the former goalkeeper of Bulgaria.

Career

Association

Mikhailov began in 1998 in the junior department of the Bulgarian club Levski Sofia. In 2004, he moved for the first time in the professional squad. Between 2004 and 2007 he made 44 games for the first team Levski Sofia. After the end of the season 2005/ 06 and 2006/ 07 he won with his team in each case the Bulgarian Championship. 2007 was done perfectly with the Cup victory, the Double. In 2005 Mikhailov won with his team the trophy. In June 2007, he was close to signing at Fiorentina, but decided an offer of Liverpool FC to accept. On July 14, 2007 Mikhailov signed then by 2010 at Liverpool. In his first season at Liverpool he was briefly third goalkeeper of Liverpool, Pepe Reina and behind Charles Itandje. Soon after Liverpool gave him in the summer of 2007 to the FC Twente to leave him there to gain experience. A rental contract of the young player was valid until 2010. At Twente he was second behind goalkeeper Sander Boschker.

After Mikhailov 2007/ 08 still came to no use for Twente, he made ​​his official debut for the Netherlands on 27 August 2008 in the Champions League qualifier against Arsenal. On 30 August 2008 he played his first league game for Twente, in the match against Roda JC. After the season 2008 /09 he was with his Leihteam behind AZ Alkmaar Dutch runners-up. In the cup the team failed in the final on SC Heerenveen on penalties. Mikhailov, however, did not come here to use.

On 5 February 2010 Mikhailov moved permanently to FC Twente. The Bulgarian has signed a contract until June 2013. During the season 2010/11 he released under coach Michel Preud'homme goalkeeper Boschker as a number and stood in 31 league games as well as in ten of the twelve Champions and Europa League matches in goal. In August 2013 he moved to the Serie A with Hellas Verona.

National

Mikhailov since 2005 goalkeeper of the Bulgarian U-21 national team. He has played for the U-21 team 14 matches and scored one goal. For the Bulgarian national team, he made ​​his debut in 2006 against Scotland, the game was lost 1:5. Then he got two games in the World Cup Qualifiers 2010 between the posts. At the European Championship qualification in 2012, he is currently the number one goal and completed so far all games.
