Nikolsk, Nikolsky District, Penza Oblast
Nikolsk (Russian Никольск ) is a town in Penza Oblast (Russia) with 22 471 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is situated on the Volga River about 120 km northeast of the plate Oblasthauptstadt Pensa on the river Wyrgan ( according to the map even corn), a left tributary of the Volga river system in Insa.
Nikolsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
Nearest railway station is the Notschka about 30 kilometers away on the track ( Moscow ) Ryazan Rusajewka - Sysran ( Samara ). The city is connected to Notschka on a narrow-gauge railway was built in 1936 (only freight, operating).
History
The city instead of the villages Nikolskoje ( known since 1668) and Pestrowka ( known since the 1680s ). These grew up together, as the crystal factory Nikolsko - Bachmetjewski Sawod was built. The place was called St. Nicholas from 1761 - Pestrowka; the work started its production in 1764.
1928, the status of an urban-type settlement under the name of St. Nicholas - Pestrowski and 1954 the city charter was awarded as Nikolsk.

Culture and sights
In Nikolsk there is a museum of art glass and crystal, whose origins go back to 1798.
Economy
