Nile Basin Initiative

The Nile Basin Initiative (English for Nile Basin Initiative, NBI short ) was established for regional cooperation between the countries in the basin of the Nile in 1999. Target is the common long-term development and management of the water resources of the river. Through enhanced cooperation a tangible benefit for all is to be achieved within the commuting area and a basis for mutual trust to be created.

The NBI is divided into a Council of Ministers ( Nile -COM) as the highest body of the NBI, which is supported by the Technical Advisory Committee ( Nile - TAC). The Board shall be composed of two officials of member countries. In addition, a secretariat ( Nile -SEC), which is based in Entebbe, Uganda exists.
