Nilotic peoples

Among the Nilotic refers to those peoples of Africa who speak Nilotic languages.

The Nilotic were originally farmers and ranchers. From their South Sudan assumed " homeland " they have spread in recent centuries, especially to the south and subjected to the part of Bantu -speaking peoples. Today they inhabit, next to the Southern Sudan, especially Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and the far west of Ethiopia. When Südwanderung probably gave some groups their language in favor of the language of the conquered. The migrating south Nilotes were partially pure ranchers, such as the Maasai.

Nilotes are very dark-skinned compared to living in the Abyssinian highlands peoples and often strikingly tall and slender.

Nilotic peoples, the peoples of the Afro-Asiatic language group (specifically, especially by speakers Cushitic languages) have been influenced linguistically and culturally are also referred to as " Nilo- Hamitic ". This is the case for the Samburu, who are allied with the Rendille, but also for the Maasai, Teso, Nandi, Pokot and others. The term has so far held, although the term Hamitic is otherwise largely fallen into disuse.
