Nimbuzz

Nimbuzz is a communication software that is available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, various mobile phones and platform independent as a web application. It provides instant messaging, presence information, and VoIP over several instant messaging networks and social networks, such as the VZ- networks. XMPP is, however, no longer supported.

The beginnings

Nimbuzz was founded in 2006 by Evert Jaap Lugt and Martin Smink. In a first round of funding the company received on May 19, 2007 10 million U.S. dollars from various investors. In a second round of financing Nimbuzz received an additional 15 million U.S. dollars.

The headquarters of Nimbuzz is located in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Other offices are located in São Paulo, Brazil, Córdoba, Argentina, and New Delhi, India.

The company has users in every country around the world. In 2008 the company was selected as one of 100 winners of the Industry Award "Red Herring 100 Global".

Functions

Instant Messaging

Nimbuzz allows communication via Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger and AIM as well as on the social networks Facebook, MySpace, Hyves, Gadu -Gadu, and Giovani Orkut. Due to renovation of the platforms SchülerVZ, StudiVZ and MeinVZ the access to their services is temporarily unavailable.

Nimbuzz also provides XMPP transports ready that can be used by XMPP -enabled instant messengers like Miranda IM, Pidgin, but allows Nimbuzz access only to their own XMPP server.

Data Security

The need for third-party access, ie the username along with the password are stored on a server online from Nimbuzz As with any XMPP transport, also on Nimbuzz. This is a misuse of the account is in fact possible.

Nimbuzz Mobile

The application Nimbuzz Mobile is currently available for more than 1,000 mobile phones that run on Symbian OS or Android or are equipped with Java ME. Also, Apple devices (iPhone ) and Blackberry are supported. For Windows Mobile software was offered until June 2010.

The application offers various telephony options, including IP telephony via Session Initiation Protocol ( SIP). Supporting Skype was set in October 2010 at the request of Skype Technologies.

Nimbuzz widgets

In order to benefit from the Nimbuzz widgets, you have to have either PC or Nimbuzz Nimbuzz Mobile installed.

Nimbuzz Communicator

The Nimbuzz Communicator is a widget that is activated when a user sets up an account. It allows any free phone calls, chats, send data, send voice messages, offline messages or the Buzz on the widget owners. This function can be optionally turned off.

Nimbuzz Ringtone Factory Ringtone Factory The widget allows the users to create custom ringtones or audio files by up loads and edited a music file to a maximum of 15 MB. The pruned audio clip can then immediately be sent to the online gallery of Nimbuzz Mobile. Log in via the widget is possible.
