Nimule is a small city in southern Sudan on the border with Uganda. It lies on the River Nile and part of the Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria.

In the second war of secession in South Sudan Nimule was initially controlled by militias of the indigenous ethnic group Madi. 1989, however, the city fell to the rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Army ( SPLA). Many Madi then fled to neighboring Uganda. Nimule was a garrison town, lived in the predominantly SPLA soldiers and Dinka who fled mainly from Jonglei from the 1990s.

Since the peace agreement in 2005 Madi return back to Nimule. Also, some of the Dinka IDPs are in turn returned to their areas of origin. Many have, however, settled permanently in Nimule, since the place is a relatively safe and with cross-border trade provides good economic opportunities. In addition, there are better educational opportunities in nearby Uganda. Returned Madi can therefore often their former ownership does not recover, leading to tension.

In 2006, the population was estimated at 45,000 and the city was considered to be fast growing, despite occasional attacks by the LRA, which was present in the area since the 1990s.

Nearby is the Nimule National Park.
