Nini Rosso

Nini Rosso, civil: Raffaele Celeste Rosso (born 19 September 1926 in Turin; † 5 October 1994) was an Italian jazz trumpeter and composer.

Life and work

When his parents ROCHE him for a legal career and set against his trumpet career, he tore at 19, was not yet of age, from home. A job in a nightclub was stopped by the police, who took him back home again. Nevertheless, he finally was able to prevail against his parents.

He founded a small band with whom he went on international tour, and soon established his reputation as the best jazz trumpeters in Italy.

In the early 1960s he ended up with pieces such as La ballata della tromba and the self-composed Concerto disperato hits in Italy. Last track became known as the theme music of the film March or krepier ( with Stewart Granger ) internationally. In the Federal Republic this recording was released by the German label Italia.

With the instrumental trumpet piece Il Silenzio he had in 1965 then his biggest hit. The song was a worldwide hit, selling ten million copies and led numerous countries to the charts, even in Germany, where it was the hit of the year in Austria and Switzerland.
