Nino Bixio

Nino Bixio (actually Tommaso; born October 2, 1821 in Genoa, † December 16, 1873 in Aceh, Sumatra ) was an Italian freedom fighter and comrade of Garibaldi.

Bixio made ​​at a young age a few trips to America and the East Indies. In 1848 he took part in the insurrection at Genoa, and soon. In the battle for Venice against the Austrians Under Garibaldi, he fought at the siege of Rome.

Afterwards he went back to sea, returned to Italy in 1859 and took again successfully participated in the uprisings. So the victory at Volturno to a large extent is his merit. After Italy was built as a kingdom, he retained his rank as lieutenant-general, which he had acquired as a result of his bravery. In this rank the Third Italian War of Independence in 1866 he took part in 1870 and took against the surrender of Civitavecchia.

Bixio made ​​in the chamber, to which he belonged since 1866, earned as an intermediary between Garibaldi and Cavour. 1870 appointed him to King Victor Emmanuel II in the Senate. Later he went back to sea.

Nino Bixio died on 16 December 1873 in Eastern India.
