Nino Niederreiter

Nino Niederreiter ( born September 8, 1992 Chur ) is a Swiss professional ice hockey player who plays for the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League for the position of left winger since June 2013.

Career

Niederreiter comes from the offspring of the EHC Chur, before he moved to the junior section of the HC Davos in summer 2006. Niederreiter is considered one of the greatest talents of Swiss ice hockey. So he came in the 2008 /09 season at the age of 16 years in three playoff games of the later Swiss champions HC Davos to use and gave it a template.

After he was selected in the CHL Import Draft 2009 second overall position of the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League, he moved to North America in autumn 2009. NHL Entry Draft 2010 Niederreiter was selected fifth overall position of the New York Islanders and is the highest placed Swiss player in the history of NHL talent draw. In September 2010, he signed a three year contract with the New York Islanders. On 13 October 2010 with the 1-0 lead against the Washington Capitals, he scored his first goal in the National Hockey League. Thus Niederreiter was at 18 years and 35 days became the youngest Islanders goal scorers of all time. On 28 October 2010 the club lead the New York Islanders decided to send Niederreiter after nine games of the season back to the Portland Winter Hawks. In the 2010/11 season he played in Portland in collaboration with his compatriot Sven Baertschi and reached the finals of the team to the Ed Chynoweth Cup, where winters Hawks in five games to the Kootenay Ice subject.

Prior to the 2011/12 season Niederreiter received a place in the NHL squad of Islanders, but was injured in a preseason game. After his recovery he was first employed in five games in the American Hockey League, before his first NHL game of the season completed in mid-November.

End of June 2013 he was transferred in exchange for Cal Clutterbuck and a third-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 2013 to the Minnesota Wild. His first goal for Minnesota scored Nino Niederreiter on October 12, 2013, in a 5-1 home win over the Dallas Stars.

Internationally

International Niederreiter played for Switzerland at the U18 World Junior Championships in 2008 and 2009. Additionally, he served as a 17-year his country at the U20 Junior World Cup 2010 semi-finals surprising. With the U20 selection of Switzerland, he reached the fourth place and was appointed to the All- Star team of the tournament.

In spring 2010, Niederreiter has played for the men's national team, for whom he played a game at the Ice Hockey World Championship for Men 2010. At the World Championships in 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki, he was again part of the national team and won the silver medal with this.
