Nintinugga

Gula is an Akkadian goddess of healing. It is characterized by its subsequent identification with Baba wife of Ninurta. Her symbol animal was the dog. Gula the 9th and 10th day of the month were dedicated to each. Since the first half of the 2nd millennium BC, it was equated with Baba except with Nin'insina.

Cult

There are not delivered very many hymns to Gula. A Hynme calls her help against an angry city god. She is asked to intervene with Marduk for the petitioners. Another prayer calls her, because bad omen occurred, the petitioners, who raises his hand to her, had a dream and a lunar eclipse had occurred and the petitioner is afraid. A temple of Gula was excavated in 1972 by McGuire Gibson of the University of Chicago in Nippur. The building dates from the period between 1600-1200 BC, however, the five building levels dating back to 3000 BC. The believers sacrificed the goddess bronze and earthenware dog figurines and anthropomorphic figurines have a diseased body part.
