Nir Shavit

Nir Shavit ( born October 18, 1959) is an Israeli computer scientist. He is a professor at Tel Aviv University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Shavit in 1984 he received his bachelor's degree in 1986 and his master's degree in computer science at the Technion in 1990 and his doctorate from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem with Danny Dolev (Concurrent time stamping). It deals with data structures and algorithms for multiprocessor systems. 1999 to 2011, he worked at Sun Labs and Oracle Labs.

In 2004 he was awarded the Gödel Prize and the 2012 Dijkstra Prize for the initial introduction of transactional memory in software form.
