Production

Nirvana is a best-of album of the band of the same name. It was late October 2002, more than eight years after the resolution of the trio, released on the label Geffen Records.

Content

The songs contained on the album are mostly previously released singles from the three studio albums Bleach (1 song ), Nevermind (4 songs ) and In Utero (4 songs ). From the recorded 1993 live album MTV Unplugged In New York, three titles have been added. In addition, each will be issued a track from the EP Blew and the B-sides album Incesticide. The only previously unreleased track on the album is You Know You're Right.

Chart successes and single

The best-of- album debuted in the 46th calendar week of 2002 at number 5 in the German charts and finished in the following weeks, the positions 9; 11 and 16 Overall, Nirvana was 26 weeks in the Top 100 in the U.S., the album debuted at # 3 and left the charts after 31 weeks.

Being single You Know You're Right was coupled to download. The song debuted in the U.S. charts at number 45, but was unable to establish itself in the German charts.

Sales

Worldwide, the best-of has sold about six million copies. In the U.S. the album for more than a million units sold was awarded a platinum record. In Europe, Nirvana has sold more than two million copies and reached double platinum status.
