Nishi-Shinjuku

Nishi -Shinjuku (Japanese西 新宿, " West Shinjuku " ) is a district of Shinjuku district of Tokyo, Japan prefecture. It is located in the west of Tokyo on the west side of Shinjuku Station. Prior to 1970, were called large parts of the district Tsunohazu (角 筈), part one of Kashiwagi, which largely corresponds otherwise to today's Kita -Shinjuku, a small part was formerly Yodobashi.

In Nishi -Shinjuku, numerous skyscrapers, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building are ( formerly the tallest building in Tokyo, where the prefectural government is located), the Shinjuku Park Tower and completed in 2008, Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower. The district is divided into eight numbered district ( chome ), in which lived 17,055 inhabitants in 11,814 households in March 2010. While the eastern areas at the station (1 - and 2- chome ) are dominated by commercial and office buildings, some of which are connected by underground passages, lie west of the " Central Park Shinjuku " ( Shinjuku Chuo kōen ) residential areas.

History

Since 1898 was in Tsunohazu the water treatment plant Yodobashi (淀 桥 净水 场, Yodobashi jōsuijō ), large parts of Tokyo supplied. Once this was moved in 1965 Higashimurayama to Nishi -Shinjuku developed. 1966 an underground passage was on the west side of Shinjuku Station, the main transportation hub of Tokyo, opened. Opened in 1971 on the site of the former sewage treatment plant, the 47-story Keio Plaza Hotel, which was soon followed by other high-rise buildings. In 1991, the Kenzo Tange -designed building complex of the prefectural government, in which the Parliament Tokyo prefecture has its headquarters, completed.
