Nishikyō-ku, Kyoto

Nishikyo -ku (Japanese西京 区, dt "Western Capital District " ) is one of eleven districts ( ku ) of Kyoto, Japan. He is in accordance with its name, on the western edge of the city, south of downtown.

History

The municipality was created on October 1, 1976 the spin-off of the neighborhoods Matsuo, Katsura, Kawaoka, Ōe and Ōharano of Ukyo -ku. The river Katsura forms the border between the two municipalities.

Attractions

Located across the river Katsura Imperial Villa is one of the most famous sights of Nishikyo -ku. The also located in the district of moss temple Saiho -ji is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Yoshimine -dera is another Buddhist temple.
