Nissan Gloria

The Gloria is a first from 1959 to 2004 by the Japanese carmaker Prince, later - after the Prince 's acquisition of Nissan in 1967 - manufactured by Nissan cars of the upper middle class. The model has been adopted by Nissan, although the work with the Cedric already own a car like blank resulted in the program. It was offered in contrast to the smaller models of the Group at any time under the brand name Datsun, but always as Nissan.

Originally built on the Prince Skyline, the Gloria was from 1971 a sister model of the Nissan Cedric, until 2004, both model series were replaced by the Fuga.

In February 1959 technically unchanged Prince Skyline debuted the Prince Gloria, with the new 1.9 - liter four-cylinder of the work and more luxurious amenities.

In the fall of 1962 launched a new Prince Gloria by its own body ( sedan and wagon ) on a longer wheelbase than the skyline. Offered was the Gloria Series S40 with both the well-known 1.9 -liter four- cylinder and, since 1963, with a new two- liter in-line six-cylinder (as Gloria Gloria Super 6 Deluxe and 6). Starting in 1964, a Grand Gloria (Series S44) was added with 2.5 -liter six- cylinder engine. He was provided with a De Dion rear axle.

In April 1967, the developed nor of Prince Gloria type A30 appeared as Nissan. The elaborate Dion rear axle gave way to a simple rigid axle, the angular body was much more modern drawn. The drive took over at the beginning of the Prince - two-liter six-cylinder engine, which was replaced by a 1969 Nissan six-cylinder engine of the same displacement. In 1971 Gloria and Cedric were placed on a common technical base, differences were limited to cosmetic. On sale now stood four-door sedan, five-door station wagon and a two-door hardtop coupe, powered by six-cylinder engines of 2 or 2.6 liters. While the Cedric exported as the Datsun 200/240/260/280 C to Europe, the Gloria remained the home market reserved.

In July 1975 Nissan introduced the latest Gloria generation. The two-liter base engine it was for taxi operation also in LPG version, the 2.6-liter grew in size to 2.8 liters. Also new was a four-door hardtop sedan, which came on top of the known body versions.

In 1979, a new Gloria, which was offered only as a stressed -edged designed sedan with or without B-pillars and station wagon. The choice was between two- liter six -cylinder carburettor, injection or turbocharger, the 2.8- liter six-cylinder, two diesel engines ( 2.2 or 2.8 liters) and LPG two-liter for the taxi trade. Was shifted via a four-speed transmission with column shift, a five-speed transmission with floor shift or a three-speed automatic. The two-liter turbo was the first Japanese production engine with turbocharger. Was new and the use of electronics in the engine controller ( ECCS ) system.

In June 1983, the next model change took place. Changed to the body variants nothing new base engine was a two-liter four-cylinder, also ranked a likewise new V6 two-liter and three-liter V6, there was again the revised 2.8-liter diesel. While the sedans in 1987 received a successor, remained the combined models of this generation, only slightly changed to 1999 in the program.

In June 1987, the Gloria Y31 debuted the series with updated bodies to continue as a regular or hardtop sedan. Motorized itself did little, however, was a new two-liter turbo version of the six-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts.

From the change to Y32 in June 1991 there was the Gloria in Japan only with (four- or five-speed ) automatic transmission. On engines were a two-liter V6, three different three-liter V6 ( SOHC, DOHC, Turbo ), a V8 and still the 2.8- liter diesel in the program.

In addition to an altered body, introduced in June 1995, the series Gloria Y33 had some new V6 engines in the VQ series. The front end with twin headlights remembered as its predecessor, a little of Bentley models, the rear of the contemporary S- Class from Mercedes.

In June 1999, the last date Nissan Gloria appeared exclusively as a four-door sedan. The produced since the 1980s, combination models were adjusted simultaneously. Was driven by the Y34 V6 engines of 2.5 or 3 liters capacity, with or without turbochargers. On the Y34 based also offered only in North America Infiniti M45. In October 2004, the Gloria - production was stopped.
