Nitrosyl tetrafluoroborate is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of nitrosyl.

Production and representation

Nitrosyl tetrafluoroborate can be obtained by the reaction of dinitrogen trioxide with tetrafluoroboric acid, followed by sublimation of the resulting monohydrate in vacuo.

Properties

Nitrosyl tetrafluoroborate is a colorless hygroscopic solid which is in the form of birefringent flakes. It decomposes in water with the escape of nitrogen oxides. It has an orthorhombic crystal structure with space group Pbnm.

Use

Nitrosyl tetrafluoroborate can be used for the manufacture of NOF. It is also used as a nitrosating agent of the secondary amines to nitrosamines in the conversion of aryl hydrazines, azides, and other organic reactions.
