Niurka Montalvo

Niurka Montalvo ( Niurka Montalvo Amaro; born June 4, 1968 in Havana ) is a Spanish athlete of Cuban origin.

She is 1.72 m tall and weighs 57 kg.

Cuba

Niurka Montalvo was. At the World Indoor Championships in 1991 with 6.68 m fifth in the long jump At the 1993 Outdoor World Championships she was with 14,22 m fourth in the inaugural Triple Jump, an inch behind the third-placed Bulgarian Iva Pranscheva.

At the 1995 World Championships Hall Montalvo was charged with 14.04 m sixth in the triple jump. In the summer of the same year, she was at the World Championships with 6.86 m second in the long jump. She was twelve inches behind the Italian Fiona May at the Olympic Games in 1996 she could not jump as 18 qualifying in the long jump in the preliminaries.

Niurka Montalvo improved in the years 1990 to 1993 three times the Cuban record in the long jump and 1992-1994 four times the Cuban record in the triple jump. In the long jump in 1998 she put on two more records, but they were no longer recognized by the Cuban Association because Niurka Montalvo operating their naturalization in Spain.

Spain

On 26 January 1998 Niurka Montalvo married a Spaniard and applied for Spanish citizenship. On 5 May 1999, it was officially Spaniard. Three months later, the 1999 World Championships took place in Seville. There, Fiona May led with 6.94 m after the first five trials. The last attempt by Niurka Montalvo was measured with 7.06 m, which meant new Spanish record. However, protested the Italian team lead because Montalvo have transgressed. The protest was dismissed and the Spanish public celebrated the first world title for Spain at this World Championships.

While the Athletics IAAF requires only the citizenship as a starting condition for eligibility for the World Championships, the International Olympic Committee lays down different requirements. If citizenship is not yet three years, and the country of origin must agree to a start in the Olympics. Since the Cuban Association refused such consent, Niurka Montalvo was not allowed to participate in the 2000 Olympic Games.

2001 won Niurka Montalvo bronze in both the World Indoor Championships as well as the outdoor world championships. Their distance was 6.88 m in both cases, where the width was achieved in the open with a strong tailwind.

At the 2004 Olympic Games Niurka Montalvo succeeded not a valid jump in the qualification. At the 2006 European Championships with 6.50m Montalvo was again seventh.
