Niva River

The Niva (Russian Нива, Northern Sami: Njavejohka ) is a river in the Murmansk Oblast in Russia.

Its length is 36 km, its catchment area covers 12,830 km ². The average discharge 15 km above the mouth is 164 m³ / s The Niwa forms the outlet of the lake Imandra to Kandalakscha Bay, the north-western part of the White Sea, towards. The river flows from north to south. It flows through the lake Pinosero ( ⊙ 67.32345132.511931 ). The city is situated on the estuary of the River Kandalakscha.

Hydropower

Between 1936 and 1954 three hydropower plants along the Niwa were built. Their total capacity is 240 MW, the annual output 1,390 GWh. They are operated by TGC -1.
