Nizamabad district

Nizamabad, also Indhooru ( Telugu: నిజామాబాదు జిల్లా; Urdu: نظام آباد ضلع ) is one of 23 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative center is the city of Nizamabad.

Geography

The district lies to the north of Andhra Pradesh. It is in the west of the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra, surrounded to the north by Adilabad district, on the east by the district Karimnagar and Medak district in the south of.

The district has an area of ​​7956 km ² and is one of the smaller area districts in Andhra Pradesh ( 2.9 % of the area of Andhra Pradesh ). 1812 km ² ( 22.8 percent) of the area is forested. The most important rivers in the district are Godavari, manjira, top Maneru, Phalungi and Yedlakattavagu. Economy

The majority of the population is employed in agriculture. Mainly rice, corn, soybeans, mung beans, sugar cane, sunflower, cotton, black grams, sorghum ( sorghum) and turmeric are grown. In addition, hand weaving is an important industry. There are throughout the district only a few small-scale industries ( energy, granite works and sugar refineries ). In mineral resources one can find different types of rocks ( limestone, granite, etc. ) that are used industrially. In the cities, people live from trade in goods and services.

History

Nizamabad is part of the Telangana region and shares its history. The present name given district and the main town in honor of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, the then Nizab of Hyderabad. By 1956, the area was a region in the Hyderabad State. Since then, Nizamabad is an administrative unit within the then newly created State of Andhra Pradesh.
