Nizhnekolymsky District

The Nischnekolymski ulus (Russian Нижнеколымский улус, also Нижнеколымский район, rajon Nischnekolymski; Yakut Аллараа Халыма улууһа, Allaraa Chalyma uluuha ) is one of the 34 Ulusse ( Rajons ) of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia ) in the north of the Russian Far East Federal District. It lies in the north of the republic on the coast of the East Siberian Sea, a part of the Arctic Ocean.

Geography

The Nischnekolymski ulus has an area of ​​approximately 86,800 km ², making it more than twice as large as the Netherlands. It is named after its location on the lower Kolyma River (Russian Nischnjaja Kolyma ), where opposite the mouth of the Anjui on the left bank is the same settlement Nischnekolymsk. The Ulus covers the northeast of the East Siberian lowland. On its territory are located from west to east the lower reaches and estuary of Alaseja and the Kolyma. There are numerous lakes. The Rajonsitz Tscherski lies to the east of Ulus in the lower reaches of the Kolyma.

The vegetation consists mostly of tundra.

Demography
