NK Aluminij

NK Aluminij is a Slovenian football club from Kidričevo. Currently the club plays in the PrvaLiga Telekom Slovenije.

History

The NK Aluminij was founded in 1946 right after the end of the Second World War. In the late sixties the club played briefly in the second Yugoslav League after the 1965/66 season, they made sure the championship title of the third division.

After the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1991, the club initially played only in the third Slovenian league. In 1997, however, came with the championship then the jump in the second division. The following year designed quite positive for the NK Aluminij and one reached in the league almost exclusively places in the upper third of the table. Between 2001 and 2003, it was three times in a row third, but missed again and again to jump to the first division.

During this time succeeded the biggest success in club history when they reached the cup final in 2002. There, NK Aluminij but had to admit defeat ND Gorica.

Despite these successes, it took another eight years before the NK Aluminij for the first time secured the championship title in the 2010/11 season. However, did not follow the rise in the first division, as the club refused because of financial difficulties. A year later they won the championship again and this time also the club agreed the rise, so the NK Aluminij first competes in the 2012/13 season in the premier league. However, it was followed by the immediate relegation after the club ended up at the end of the season in last place.
