Nkandla Local Municipality

The community name derives from the isiZuluwort for a hiding place. In times of war, for example, during Bambatha Uprising, the Zulu warriors used the local forest as protection from their enemies.
2001, the municipality had 133 604 inhabitants in an area of 1827 square kilometers. The most important places in the community are Babanango, Nkandla and Vumanhlamvu.
