Nkroful is famous as the birthplace of Kwame Nkrumah, the first president and " founding father" of Ghana. Nkrumah was born on September 21, 1909, grew up here and was buried after his death in exile in 1972 here. Later, his body was transferred into a large mausoleum in Accra.
