Noah Gordon (novelist)

Noah Gordon ( born November 11, 1926 in Worcester / Massachusetts) is an American writer.

Life

Noah Gordon was born the second child of Robert and Rose in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. His first name was chosen after his grandfather Noah Melnikoff. In 1945 he graduated from high school. Despite goggles and color-blindness, he joined the Army, then the Navy. After the Second World War, he first studied medicine, but then he discovered his love of writing and studied journalism. In 1950, he received his bachelor's degree in journalism and later his master's degree in English and Creative Writing at Boston University.

He married Lorraine Seay and lived with her in New York. After her first child, they moved to Boston. After that, he worked for many years at the Boston Herald. Following the publication of several stories, he already succeeded with his first novel The Rabbi of breakthrough. Particularly successful are his novels around the fictitious physician Dynasty, the Cole family ( The Physician, Shaman, The heirs of the Medicus ). His most recent works deal with the Inquisition and the Jewish cultural history.

For the second novel, The Shaman of the Medicus Series he received in the spring of 1993, the James Fenimore Cooper Prize for Historical Fiction.

Gordon has three children. He now lives with his wife in a nursing home where he supervises library, which he donated to the nursing home.
