Noarootsi Parish
Noarootsi (Swedish and German: Nuckö ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Lääne with an area of 296 km ². It has 981 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2008).
Noarootsi is located directly on the Baltic Sea in the western part of the county. The area was inhabited since the mid-13th century the majority of Estonian Swedes who lived mainly from fishing. Most Swedish-speaking inhabitants were resettled 1943/44, shortly before the occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union to Sweden.
Villages
Since 1997, the place names are again two languages specified in Estonian and Swedish. The administrative headquarters is located in Pürksi ( Birka ).
