Nocera Inferiore

Nocera Inferiore is an Italian town in the province of Salerno and the Campania region with 46 276 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

The neighboring municipalities are Castel San Giorgio, Nocera Superiore, Pagani, Roccapiemonte, San Valentino Torio, Sarno and Tramonti.

History

Nocera Inferiore is the ancient Nuceria Terna.

In the Middle Ages played his Hohenstaufen castle in the Kingdom of Naples an important role:

  • Here Helena was imprisoned in March 1267 of Epirus, the former queen as wife (and now widow ) Manfred of Sicily; she died here in 1271
