The Still GmbH & Co. KG, based in Wangen im Allgäu is a manufacturer and importer of model railway accessories, especially for landscaping. It manufactures products for all popular sizes.
Company History
The Leipzig master plumber Oswald yet moved with his family after the birth of his first son Oswald Erich yet 1909 to Glauchau (Saxony), where he became a plumber on January 19, 1911, enlarged from the Model Company developed in the following decades, yet. When the son Erich after successful studying electrical engineering a small subsidiary of plumbing opened and selling electric products, the actual history of model building began with yet.
First piled up before Christmas, the inquiries as to whether the electrician could not fix some model trains, whereupon he began to sell in his shop locomotives from Märklin. When Erich In 1936 the carpenter Ernst Hecker met, the small houses built for model railways, the company was yet to the model railway manufacturer.
Before the company could begin, however, to bring their own products to market, interrupted by the Second World War the plans. While Erich yet fought in France, rested the business in Glauchau. After the war, the company, produce individual model landscapes for wealthy clients from plaster and wood started. From 1949 the first own products were introduced - tunnels, buildings, but also tracks and even cars. However, in the young GDR threatened the company's nationalization, and so gave in 1956 Erich and his family yet the company in Glauchau and fled to the West.
In Maisach near Munich, the family began to build the company again. The range has been maintained in many parts; only on cars has been omitted. Main sales items were still finished terrain and special. With its products appeared yet on the Nuremberg Toy Fair, and had after a few years of success. 1961, the company moved to Wangen im Allgäu, where it today has its seat. With the move to new premises and a new chapter in the model production began: Erich yet led the Thermoforming one for model; he made the first in this procedure tunnel models.
After years of moving and new beginnings the company now came into calmer waters. The landscape range has varied over the years and soon also operated customers who wanted to build their own model railway layouts. In addition to grass mats, trees and decorations scenes for customizing tunnels and mountains in the 1970s, was presented the terraforming system. As the demand for finished terrain declined in the 1980s, the company was able to rely on the same rising popularity of terraforming elements.
The car rail system introduced in 1982 a method to move the model via magnets through underground electric trains on the road. Four years later, the company introduced a new high-precision production type for tunnel and models, the rigid foam. Other industries discovered the various possibilities of the rigid foam and gave displays or decorations made of this material at yet in order.
After Erich yet and some years later his son Peter died in 1997, Dr. Rainer took over yet, the great-grandson of the company founder Oswald Still, the management of the company and let them rebuild and expand.
Since 2008, yet the LaserCut plants, and in 2010 the first LaserCut building were presented at the International Toy Fair.
Today is the German distributor for Athearn and KATO yet. Besides a wide range of materials for landscaping are finished terrain is made of plastic the most famous product of the company.
