Nocturnal Rites

Nocturnal Rites is a Swedish power metal band that was founded in 1990.

History

The band was first established under the name Necronomic, playing mainly Death Metal (as shown on their demo The Obscure, 1991, to hear and contains four pieces of music ). Some independent labels showed interest, but the band signed a contract yet in the hope of better deals. As early as 1992 had developed their music to a more harmonious and melodic metal. The music was indeed heavily influenced by Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, but still clear Death Metal.

At the beginning, the band only from man Fredrik Berg ( guitar, vocals) and Tommy Eriksson (drums), and later was joined by bassist Nils Eriksson. The band was looking after their orientation toward the melodic Power Metal a singer who fit better to this style and Frederik man mountain was supposed to replace. 1993 Anders Zackrisson a substitute for the vocal part of the mountain man was found, but continued to play with the band. A little later, Tommy Eriksson was replaced by Ulf Andersson and a second guitarist was added with Mikael Söderström. At this time, Necronomic had already developed into a band that played in the style of power metal Helloween.

In 1994 the band signed with the Swedish label Dark Age and their first album, In a Time of Blood and Fire was published in cooperation with Mega Rock Records 1995. Then the guitarist Mikael Söderström left the band and was replaced by Nils Norberg. In 1997 the second album, Tales of Mystery and Imagination was first in Japan, then released in Europe via Century Media 1998. The band played several concerts in Europe with Overkill and Angel Dust.

1999 the third album, The Sacred Talisman. This was recorded with drummer Owe Lingvall, as Ulf Andersson suffered a leg injury. The album debuted in the Japanese charts at number 83, the band toured only 2 weeks after the release with Nevermore, Morgana Lefay and Sacred Steel in Europe and participated in open air festivals like Dynamo Open Air 1999. After the tour Anders Zackrisson left the band and was from a friend of Owe Lingvall, Jonny Lindqvist, replaced. He gave the band a new voice on their next album Afterlife, which was released in 2000. The band went out with this album along with Iron Savior on a European tour.

In 2004, the album New World Messiah was published, followed by a 6- week tour with Edguy and Brainstorm. In December, two videos were released, Awakening and Against the World, both of which were produced by drummer Owe Lingvall.

In 2005, the 10-year anniversary with a double CD names Lost in Time, which contained the first two releases of the band as well as some additional material. In the album Grand Illusion, which was released in 2005, appeared at many guests; such as Jens Johansson ( Stratovarius ), Henrik Danhage ( Evergrey ), Kristoffer W. Olivius ( Naglfar ), Stefan Elmgren ( Hammerfall ) and also of the Swedish world champion in cross-country skiing Per Elofsson who comes as the band from Umeå.

2008 Nils Norberg left the band as he announced on the band's website.

The band was among other things, with Nightwish, Gamma Ray, Hammerfall and Labyrinth on tour and played at festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Sweden Rock Festival, Gates of Metal, etc.
