Nohen

Nohen is a municipality in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Birkenfeld.

Geography

The village lies at the confluence of Röhmbachs in the Nahe. To the west is Rimsberg, in the north Kronweiler, in the east and south is Reichenbach Heimbach.

History

The occupation of the site can be attributed to the former convenient location on one of the few fords in the narrow upper valley of the Nahe.

As an indication of its geographical importance of the fact can be seen that the location is designated as the only all along the river after the river name. Here crossed one of the oldest north-south traffic and trade routes in the region, the Nahe. This " bronze street " from Glan Nohen over the Moselle was built in Roman times as a cross-connection of the streets of Mainz Trier and Mainz to Metz.
