Noise leather head ( Philemon corniculatus )

The noise leather head ( Philemon corniculatus ) is an Australian songbird of the family of the honey -eater ( Meliphagidae ).

Features

The 35 cm long noise leather head is a large gray bird with white throat, red eyes and a long tail with white tip. Unusually for a songbird are the black bald head and black beak with a small hump. The noise leather head has a loud, harsh, cackling voice.

Occurrence

The distribution area of the noise leather head ranges in eastern Australia from north-east Queensland to north- east Victoria. It also occurs in New Guinea. He lives both in eucalyptus forests, dry forests, heathland and wetland.

Behavior

Although the bird with his bare head like a vulture sees, he is not scavengers, they feed primarily on nectar from flowers, but also of berries, fruits, insects and eggs of other birds. Occasionally, he also captured young birds, amphibians and reptiles. Outside the breeding season they live in large flocks.

Reproduction

In the breeding season from August to February are the noise leather heads couples. Between dense foliage they build on one of the outer branches of a tree, often over water, a deep, cup -shaped nest of bark, grasses, leaves and cobwebs. The nest consists of two to three eggs.
