Nojim Maiyegun

Nojim Maiyegun ( born February 21, 1944 in Lagos ) is a former Nigerian middleweight boxer.

Career

Prior to his professional career, he won at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the bronze medal in the light middleweight, he lost in the semifinals against Joseph Gonzales from France. Another success came to him in 1966 when he took another third place in Kingston in the British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

1971 Maiyegun turned pro and fought almost exclusively in Germany and Austria. His career was without major highlights. His battle balance is positive - twelve victories in four point defeats - but his career did not really gather momentum. First and foremost, he pushed against unterklassige opponents. Three of his opponents can be described as important: Jorge Fernández from Argentina, against whom he lost in June 1972; Denny Moyer from the USA, he defeated on points in January 1973; and in his last fight in December 1973 Domenico Tiberias from Italy, he was referring to a point defeat. Later Maiyegun blind. Doctors suggest that this is happening due to heavy punches in boxing.
