Noken

The Noken is a multifunctional, knotted or woven bag, the Indonesian part of Papua in West Papua (formerly in Indonesian: Irian Jaya ) of the island of New Guinea.

Characteristically, the Noken is hanging worn from head to advance various goods or even infants. Occasionally she also serves that women thus cover the chest. For local elections, they used to talk as a ballot box. Almost every woman in the highlands of Papua carries the head pocket and even in the cityscape Wamenas it comes up again and again.

The components of this Noken of dried bark, whereby the stems of orchid plants can be used. In 2012, UNESCO put the Noken on the list of urgent conservation need of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
