Noma Literary Prize

The Noma Literary Prize (Japanese野 间 文 芸 赏, Noma Bungei Shō ) was set to the last will of Noma Seiji ( 1878-1938 ) corresponding to and named after him. The Literature Prize has been awarded since 1941 by the Noma Hoko Kai, an organization founded by Seiji Noma 1909 Kodansha publishing house, in different categories.

Originally, the Noma Literary Prize was as prize for literature (野 间 文 芸 奨 励 赏, Noma Bungei Shōreishō ) and awarded a literary prize from 1941 to 1946. After an interruption during the Second World War, the award as Noma Literary Prize was continued from 1953. The award recognizes writers of the so-called pure literature (纯 文学, Junbungaku ) for novels (小说, SHOSETSU ) and Reviews (评论, Hyoron ). The winners will be honored with a medal and they received since 1989, a sum of money amounting to three million yen (2 million yen before the 42nd award (1989)).

On the occasion of 70 years of existence in 1979 also publishing the Noma Literary Prize for debutants (野 间 文 芸 新人 赏, Noma Bungei Shinjinshō ) was established. The winners will be honored with a medal and they received since 1990, a sum of money in the amount of one million yen ( 500,000 yen before the 12th award (1990)). In contrast to the Akutagawa Prize of the Noma Literary Prize for newcomers is also awarded for independent publications.

Besides these two literary prizes of Noma Children's Literature Prize (野 间 児 童文芸 赏, Noma Jido Bungei Shō ) has been awarded since 1963. The prize is endowed with a bronze medal and a cash prize in the amount of 2 million yen. It is awarded every year from August to July the following year for children's literature and non-fiction texts.

As a counterpart to the literary prize for first timers was from 1963 to 1988, first prize for children's literature (野 间 児 童文芸 推 奨 赏, Noma Jido Bungei Suishōshō ) awarded. From 1989 to the award under the title of Noma Children's Literature Award was for debutants (野 间 児 童文芸 新人 赏, Noma Jido Bungei Shinjinshō ) continued and closed in 1998.
