Non-church movement

The Mukyōkai movement (Japanese无 教会, dt "non- church " ) is a Christian movement that was founded by Uchimura kanzo in 1901 and is mainly active in Japan. They first developed under poor conditions of a split from the Methodist Church because of the rejection of the institutionalized, Western churches and missionaries. The Mukyōkai movement sees itself as a return to the original Christianity of the Gospels, and practiced religion without clergy, sacraments or church buildings.

The number of adherents in 1956 estimated at 50,000 to 100,000, about 500,000 Christians in Japan. 1979 was one of the movement estimated 35,000 followers in Japan, Taiwan and Korea.
