Non-dairy creamer

Coffee creamer is a white, powdery, milk powder like substance that is used as a milk substitute for coffee and tea.

The advantage of the creamer to milk is that the beverage is not diluted thereof. Since creamer contains no liquid, it is very durable. In coffee creamers bulk point is used instead of milk due to the better durability normally. The name of the drink is therefore " white coffee " instead of " coffee with milk " or " milk coffee ".

Sugary milk creamer

In Central Europe, especially coffee whitener is used mainly composed of glucose syrup ( about 50%), dried milk fat (about 20 %) and milk sugar ( lactose). In addition, often sugar, hydrogenated vegetable fats or extracts of various plants (eg, vanilla, peanut ) added. The hardened fats are a health problem because they usually contain so-called trans - fatty acids, which can lead to atherosclerosis ( " hardening of the arteries " ) and thus to heart attacks and strokes.

To prevent clogging during the dissolution, or by humidity, calcium phosphate ( E341 ) is often used as a release agent.

Non- dairy creamer

There are also coffee creamer which contains no milk fat and no lactose, but only sodium caseinate, a casein derivative ( milk protein ). In English-speaking this is not considered a dairy product and is referred to as "non- dairy creamer ." In the world frequent Lactose intolerance is this product, such as in the U.S. or in Asia, more common than milk sugary creamer. Despite the designation of non- dairy creamer this kind of Jews and vegans is considered dairy product because it contains casein. Also, non- dairy creamer is available with many flavor additives.

The first lactose- free creamers, Coffee-Mate, was brought in 1961 by Nestlé to market. Today it contains about 64 % glucose syrup, vegetable fat, 30.5% and 2.1% sodium caseinate.

Pure vegetable creamer

Creamer vegetable based is available today in many countries, as well as in Germany. The buyers of this product class of creamer are next to people with lactose intolerance and vegans and lacto-ovo- vegetarians.

Topping

An alternative to coffee whitener is the so -called topping. In this case, the protein and fat content of the creamer is increased, which leads to a significant improvement in taste. The machines range topping is very often used because of the mechanically whipped milk foam lasts longer. Topping is about twice as expensive as classic coffee creamer.
