Nonancourt

Nonancourt is a commune with 2324 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the district Évreux and Canton Nonancourt.

History

1189 signed Philip II of France and Richard the Lionheart here a truce, but they did not comply.

During World War II (1939-1945), a member of the Resistance took place during Operation Overlord, a radio station of an Allied aircraft and hid them in the bell tower of the Church of Nonancourt. On August 14, 1944 When the Wehrmacht discovered the radio station, they arrested the two priests of the place and the mayor and brought them to Dreux. The three prisoners were soon released it again because the German guards fled.
