Nonivamide or Pseudocapsaicin is a synthetic capsaicin, which is used as medicinal or irritant.

Chemical Properties

Chemically nonivamide differs from capsaicin by the lack of double bond and methyl group in the side chain.

Use

Nonivamide acts as an analgesic and promotes circulation and is therefore used for muscle, joint and nerve pain of rheumatism.

Another use of Pseudocapsaicin as an active ingredient in pepper spray or pepper tear gas cartridges for pistols.

Pharmacology

Nonivamide, capsaicin is a synthetic analogue having analgesic properties, which leads to a decrease in substance P in peripheral pain-sensitive C- fibers and Aδ - nerve fibers after repeated application to the skin.
