Nonpareil Dempsey

Jack Dempsey called, The Nonpareil, actually John Edward Kelly ( * December 15 1862 in Curran, County Kildare, Ireland, † November 2, 1895 in Portland, Oregon) was an Irish middleweight boxing champion.

Once in May 1909 a belated obituary was published on him in the Seattle Daily Times, it was after his death once again very popular. John L. Sullivan wanted to let him put a monument on his grave, but what the family refused.

In his honor, took the born as William Harrison Dempsey future world heavyweight champion Jack the given name and called himself Jack Dempsey.

He stood against many well-known boxer in the ring, often against heavyweights such as James J. Corbett, Bob Fitzsimmons and John L. Sullivan.
