Nora Owen

Nora Owen (birth name: O'Mahony, born June 1, 1945 in Dublin ) is a former Irish Fine Gael politician.

Biography

Nora Owen, who worked as a chemist in industry, started her national political career in 1981 as a candidate of the Fine Gael with the election of Deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ), in which up to its election defeat in 1987, the interests of the constituency represented Dublin North.

In 1989 she was re-elected members of the House of Commons and represented there by two subsequent re- elections until 2002, again the constituency of Dublin North.

After the formation of a coalition government, she was appointed on 15 December 1994 by Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) John Bruton Minister of Justice in his cabinet and held that office until the end of Bruton's term of office on 26 June 1997.

After she suffered an election defeat in the general election in 2002, she retired from the Dáil and retired from active politics.

Nora Owen is not only a great-niece of the leader of the Irish Freedom Movement Michael Collins, but also the younger sister of Mary Banotti, the presidential candidate of the Fine Gael in 1997 and long-time members of the European Parliament.
