Norah Jones

Norah Jones ( born March 30, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York City, the most popular contemporary Norah Jones Shankar ) is an American soul and jazz singer, pianist, songwriter, actress, and multiple Grammy winner.

Life

Norah Jones is the daughter of Susan Jones and Ravi Shankar. Anoushka Shankar is her half-sister. At the age of four, she moved with her mother to Grapevine (Texas), a suburb of Dallas. Two years later, Jones began to take piano lessons and played for some time, saxophone and trumpet. At 15, she enrolled at the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, which was also Erykah Badu and Roy Hargrove were graduating. During her school years Jones received several awards for her singing and her compositions. She changed her name at the age of 16 years ( with the permission of her father ). After high school, Jones went in 1997 to the well-known for its fine music lessons University of North Texas where he studied jazz piano. She also sang in the band Laszlo.

In 1999 she moved to New York and performed regularly with the funk band Wax Poetic. But soon she started her own band with Jesse Harris, Lee Alexander and Dan Rieser. In October 2000, they recorded some demos for Blue Note Records, where she signed a contract in January 2001. Jones took over for Charles Hunter's album Songs from the Analog Playground on two songs: More Than This by Roxy Music and Day Is Done by Nick Drake.

In 2003, she received her and produced by Arif Mardin album Come Away with Me five Grammys, which she became known to a wider audience. A year later the album Feels Like Home was released. In 2006, she brought with her band The Little Willies out the eponymous album.

On January 26, 2007 she released Jones ' album Not Too Late. In the same year she gave to the part of Elizabeth in My Blueberry Nights her debut as an actress in the American road movie of the Hong Kong director Wong Kar -wai. The film opened on 16 May 2007, the 60th Cannes Film Festival.

On 13 November 2009 her fourth studio album was released, entitled The Fall. In November 2010, the album Featuring appeared. In April 2012, the album Little Broken Hearts, which was produced by Danger Mouse followed. For its produced in cooperation with Daniele Luppi album Rome Jones borrowed last year already for a few pieces of her voice.
