Norbert Bischofberger

Norbert Bischofberger (born 10 January 1954 in Mellau ) is an Austrian biochemist and developer of the influenza therapeutic Tamiflu and other drugs for other infectious diseases, such as HIV therapeutic Viread.

Life

Norbert Bischofberger grew up in Mellau in the Bregenz Forest ( Vorarlberg), where his parents owned an inn on. He is the second youngest of six children. His interest in science was sparked in childhood according to own data.

After primary school in Mellau Bischofberger visited the Cistercian school Mehrerau in Bregenz, where he graduated with the Matura. After studying chemistry at the University of Innsbruck. Then he took a doctorate at the ETH Zurich.
