Motto and coat of arms

The episcopal motto Trelles is: Fundamentum est Christ Jesus ( " The building is Jesus Christ ", modeled on 1 Cor 3:11: "For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, Jesus Christ. " )

The coat of arms is cleaved by gold and red in the lower part there are three crowns in confused colors. Colors and division of the sign correspond to the bishopric of Hildesheim coat of arms; the three crowns in blazon remember the Magi, whose shrine is at the center of Cologne Cathedral and at the legend, whose main tradition strands include the "Historia trium regum " ( History of the Three Kings) the Carmelite John of Hildesheim. The set behind the shield cross is modeled after the Bernward Cross and commemorates the holy Bernward of Hildesheim.
