History

Shortly after the Second World War, the French state-owned aircraft factory Société nationale de constructions aéronautiques du Nord ( SNCAN ) production resumed. Same time, many new designs were developed in the various works, among them the prototype of a single-seat jet fighter of the carrier insert, whose development had encouraged the French Navy.

Known as the North 2200 machine, a one-beam low-wing aircraft with tricycle landing gear and a central air intake was designed for Abfangjagdeinsatz. The swept wing with high-speed laminar had additionally Fowler flaps.

The prototype was launched on 19 December 1949 for the first flight, but significant design changes were necessary during the current flight testing, including to the servo systems and the fin. Also, the air inlet has been redesigned and received in an arranged above him lip radars. Thus the flight test was completed only in March 1952, with the stability problems with the not yet fully explored swept-wing proved to be unsolvable. Since other carrier fighter planes were available now, presented to a development; the swept-wing research was continued with the North in 1601.
